The left and right brain: a dynamic duo that’s been puzzling humanity since, well, forever. It’s a tale as old as time or at least as old as neuroscience. On one hand, we have the left brain: the logical, analytical, spreadsheet-loving, “show me the data” type. Then there’s the right brain: the free-spirited, daydreaming, “I can feel the answer” artist. Together, they’re like an odd couple sitcom, constantly negotiating who gets to drive the mental car.
For us as BQH practitioners, this yin-and-yang of brain function can be a blessing or a hilarious challenge. Take the classic left-brain client: the one who sits in your chair with arms crossed, silently demanding a PowerPoint presentation on why hypnosis is “a thing.” This is the person who, mid-session, will ask, “But HOW does this actually work?” Bless their hearts, they’re not trying to be difficult; they just can’t help themselves.
Then we have our dreamy right-brain clients, who lean back, close their eyes, and within seconds are riding a unicorn on a rainbow, discovering the meaning of life. You guide them to visualize a beach, and they’re already in Bali, sipping a coconut. They’re not just in the zone—they are the zone.
Now, the beauty of hypnosis is that it doesn’t pick sides, it’s Switzerland in the brain wars. Whether your client is a left-brained sceptic or a right-brained dreamer, hypnosis works to bridge the divide. We start by coaxing the left brain into taking a coffee break with logical, structured inductions (“Yes, this step makes sense; proceed.”).
Then, we let the right brain swoop in with creative visualizations and metaphors (“Ooh, a butterfly symbolizing transformation? Love it!”).
By the end of the session, the left brain is chill, the right brain is inspired, and both are vibing together in a harmonious theta-wave dance; in an ideal world.
As BQH is flexible with incorporating other ideas or modalities, we have to gauge each client and their needs on a one to one basis. So, here I have written down a suggestion when we get those left brain clients that may help.
1. Read your BQH Script as usual - The Induction.
2. Then add positive suggestions:
“In this peaceful state, your mind is open and receptive to positive, helpful ideas. You can feel your logical, analytical mind becoming a trusted ally to your creative, intuitive mind. Together, they work in harmony, balancing logic with imagination, analysis with intuition.
You realize that it’s safe to let go of control when you need to relax. You trust that your subconscious mind knows exactly what you need, and you can allow it to guide you to solutions, clarity, and calm.
Every time you take a moment to relax like this, you find it easier and easier to release tension. You feel refreshed, focused, and capable, ready to face any challenge with clarity and confidence.”
A technique as simple as a few suggestions may change your session completely.
If you already had those difficult left-brain clients, what did you do to navigate the session?
Each session is different because every client is so different.
